]]>A photo exhibition capturing the essence of Ghana’s everyday life, livelihoods, and rich cultural diversity drew scores of people to the National Museum in Accra to experience the creativity, resilience and communal spirit that defines Ghana’s diverse traditions.
The exhibition, titled: “Ghana Life”, offers a visual exploration of the daily life in Ghana – providing an immersive narrative of the people, traditions and evolving landscapes that shape the country’s rich cultural identity.
The month-long event, which started on February 4, was organised by Mr Wojciech Zaremba, a Polish photographer and curator, in collaboration with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board.
The captivating photos showcase diverse moments from bustling marketplaces and vibrant street scenes to intimate family interactions and timeless traditions.
The exhibition features over 50 images, exploring the lives of individuals in both rural and urban settings in Western, Central, Eastern and the Greater Accra regions.
Visitors and tourists are taken on a visual journey through the bustling streets of Accra, tranquil farming communities and the colourful traditions of people in the other three regions.
Mr Zaremba, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the exhibition aimed to showcase the universality of human experience, highlighting how similar themes of family, work, and community are shared across the different cultural settings.
“These images depict the lives of everyday Ghanaians – be it a fisherman casting his net along the coast, a trader at the market or children playing football in the heart of Accra. Through these photos, we want to show that while our traditions and practices may differ, we all share a common humanity,” he said.
Mr Zaremba, also the Development Chief of Akyem Abenase in the Eastern Region, said Ghanaians were the same people with the same dreams and visions, hence the importance to value everybody’s daily life and hustle.
Dr Malik Saako Mahmoud, Assistant Director, Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, said the exhibition had shown the unique routine of Ghanaians and depicted commonalities from the regions.
Photography, he noted, could be a source of employment for the youth and urged Ghanaian photographers to make the profession attractive as well as idnovate through curating pictures that depicted the Ghanaian culture.

]]>The University of Ghana, in partnership with Nubuke Foundation and KGL Foundation, has launched a weeklong visual arts exhibition titled “Artify” on the University’s campus.
Running from November 26 to December 2, the event showcases drawings and paintings by eight visual artists selected by the University.
The artists participated in a two-week skills and business orientation training before the exhibition, where they were coached on art practice fundamentals, copyright and intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and business management.
The training aimed to help the artists upscale their craft and expand their client reach, equipping them to become more business-oriented art professionals.
The Artify project, under the theme “Amplifying Art as a Business”, was conceived by the University of Ghana’s Office of Research, Innovation, and Development (ORID).
It aims to provide a skills development program for aspiring visual artists aged 18 to 30, including both students and individuals living within the university’s surrounding communities.
Professor Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development, University of Ghana, said they aimed to equip them with the necessary tools and skills to thrive as artists and entrepreneurs.
“This initiative nurtures talent and fosters entrepreneurial spirit among young aspiring artists. Together, we cultivate creativity and transform passion into sustainable careers,” he said.
Prof. Asante said that the skills required to run an art business are often overlooked, as art was commonly perceived as a hobby that doesn’t necessitate specialized management skills.
He argued that by integrating business and project management skills into the art ecosystem in Ghana, more organizations and investors could be encouraged to support creatives.
Madam Odile Tevie, Director of Nubuke Foundation, called on authorities to create more platforms, similar to the Artify exhibition, where artists could showcase their work.
She advocated for the establishment of visual arts spaces in communities, where local talents could receive training and be nurtured in their craft.
Madam Tevie also highlighted the economic potential of the creative arts sector, urging that it be upscaled to attract both local and international investments and partnerships, contributing to socioeconomic growth and development.
Mr. Sedem Atsu Avornyo, one of the participating artists, praised the University and its partners for the initiative.
He noted that his knowledge and skills had been greatly enriched, better preparing him for the job market.
However, he pointed out that despite the significant economic potential of their trade, many Ghanaian artists lacked the attention, support, infrastructure, and marketing channels necessary to scale their businesses effectively.

Slated for November 30, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, the show would honour prominent personalities such as Agya Koo Nimo, known in private life as Daniel Amponsah, who had, over the years, championed acoustic guitar Highlife and folklore (palm wine music).

Speaking at the launch, Ms Yvonne Ocloo, Producer and Creative Director of Rhythms On Da Runway, described the event as “a celebration of the powerful intersection between fashion, culture, and music.”
She stressed that show, from its humble beginnings, had grown into a platform that “amplifies the voices of African designers and artists across the globe.”
“This year, we take our mission forward by centering the conversation around one of Africa’s most iconic and sustainable fabrics—Kente,” she stated, and urged designers to draw inspiration from the ancient wisdom of Kente weavers and create collections that are “groundbreaking and sustainable.”
“Just as Kente weaving has stood the test of time, so too should our commitment to responsible fashion…Lets emulate the beautiful unity we see in the Kente cloth! A robust tapestry of beautiful unity,” she said.
Ms Ocloo explained that conversations with designers, fashion schools, and creative minds, would focus on sustainability of the sector, adding that 2024 marked the final year event was being launched in-person.
“As we move forward, embracing technology and digital platforms, we are shifting toward virtual experiences to reach even wider audiences.”
“This decision has been a tough one to take but due to the challenge of accessing the financial support needed to sustain large-scale creative arts projects like Rhythms on the Runway, we must do the needful.
“Despite these challenges, we remain committed to our vision of elevating African art and culture, and we would continue to innovate and push boundaries. However, this shift highlights the urgency for more committed support for creative arts in Africa,” she added.
On October 5, there would be a gathering of “the most talented models ready to light up the runway. October 25 would be an evening of networking and collaboration of stakeholders in the fashion and music industry.
Organiser would host a thought leadership forum, dubbed “THE ORANGE Roundtable,” on November 14, prior to the grand event on November 30.
